Ciao, Via Diagonale!
Via Diagonale is done. Here is the finished product in my kitchen. And look how perfectly my peridot pin goes with the bag!
So, yesterday, I sweated and sewed. I cut out the liner, sewed it together, lined the bag using interfacing, and then sewed the lining into the bag. Then I cut out strip of interfacing and covered those with fabric, put them through the handle loops and then attached them to the sides of the bag. Oh, and I triple-reinforced the bottom of the bag with interfacing and some plastic. Oh, and covered that with fabric as well.
I think that I did a passable job:
Things I learned in the process (numbering for Amy's benefit):
A. Thimbles are nice. They keep me from bleeding.
2. I may not be patient or exacting enough for sewing. Too often in the process I said, "Enh, good enough" or perhaps more alarmingly to the sewers out there, "Hey, where does BL keep the duct tape?"
Oh, and you'll see that I am wearing my Rowan Whisper sweater in the above photo. It goes perfectly with the bag!

Incredible! You finished that really quickly, and it looks fabulous! Now if only my sewing project was going as quickly...

That came out really well. I like the handles. Now just keep it away from leaky pens and such!

Oooh! Via Diagonale turned out so well. I love it! I think you did a fantastic job. It was nice to see Whisper again, too.

Wowie zowie!
It looks great, I think the finishing looks fab. I fear doing mine, I am just as clueless. What is interfacing?
I also really want long wooden handles and I have no idea how those work!
I think it's okay not to be exact--it takes all kinds.
To quote you, can we talk about the sweaters you knit last year? Besides Whisper, I love the hoodie and the wrap sweater!

I LOVE how this turned out! You should flaunt that bag! Perfect. it does go beautifully with the sweater; I think this will be your "look" for the winter of '05? Now tell me about the shoes...

Hi, I followed grumperina's link here, and WOW! that's one gorgeous bag. The herringbone, and the lining... the knitting, and the sewing... brava!

That bag looks great. I don't think I have ever seen a herringbone pattern quite like that. Very impressed!

It came out beautiful! Love it! Congrats!

It's gorgeous, and you did a great job lining it. Like knitting, sewing is a process. Also like knitting some people are super picky, but many find room for fudging. Just don't do like my first grade classmate who tore her skirt at school and stapled it shut...
