I am no bird and no net ensnares me

Ashley was right. I should have read this book years ago. So beautiful. So very beautiful.

Mitss

The perfect book, being cradled by some perfectly cozy mitts.

go socks.....errr, sox

Although I thought I wouldn't be knitting socks anytime soon, LL needs (yes, needs) a pair of orange knee highs. And, really, who doesn't need a pair of orange knee highs? Kneehighs_2

I'm using Reynolds Sunday Best (cotton +  viscose) and a pattern from their Reynolds Kids booklet.  If you have kids, you need (yes, need) this book. Lots of adorable patterns.

Okay, off to go check on my pie. Thanks for the recipe link, Nova!

first date

Who needs Rheinbeck when I can meet up with Ashley at an awesome little coffee joint to knit socks, chat about many things (including some of our favorite bloggers), and eat fabulous food?

Sock_meets_sock

My orange knee-high for LL is on the left, while Ashley's gorgeous sock is on the right.

What a lovely date with a sweet lady. Mwah!

a silk ruffle scarf takes a trip to Portland

Scarf_in_portland

We spent the weekend in Portland, Maine  where I sported another FO.

Pattern: Silk Alpaca lace scarf by Mac + Me

Yarn: sportweight silk custom-dyed by Sundara (it's one of a kind!), about 1400 yards.

Needles: US 5 + 6

Instead of K1P1 ribbing for the center panel, I opted for cartridge belt rib instead.

This scarf was a labor of loveScarf4. For the ruffle, you need to pick up all the edge stitches and just keep increasing until your head explodes (well, no, not really but that's what it felt like).

And Portland? Lovely! Lots of great shops and restaurants. And you know I checked out Edith + Edna.  But somehow missed  the Angela Adams store. Next  time!

Okay, off to eat some 3400 Phinney Bread + Chocolate (oh the love!) and watch Reaper. What? I should be grading midterms? Lalalalala, I can't hear you. Scarf5

stag bag

Crappy weather today, so it was difficult to get a good shot. Even so, I think it's gorgeous!Stag_bag1

Pattern: Intricate Stag Bag by Norah Gaughan

Yarn: Kraemer Tatamy Tweed in Chocolate and It's a Boy

Fabric: Joel Dewberry Chocolate Sunburst and Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton in Turquoise

Stagbag2

I went with a plain stockinette back. I gotta be honest, after all the stranded knittingStagbag3  I just wanted some mindless knitting. Also, no twisted cord edging. Maybe later.

I picked up some handles from Joannes and lined the bag with the Joel Dewberry fabric along with some cotton batting.

I have another FO to show off. More on that later!

birch

I finished and blocked Birch earlier this week. I had a day to wear it before the temperature turned to the high 80s again.

Birch_2

Pattern: Birch Shawl by  Sharon Miller in Rowan 34

Yarn: Sundara Silk Lace Eggplant over Spice

Needle: Addi Lace Turbo US2

The yarn is fabulBirch_2_2ous. The needle size resulted in a slightly smaller shawl. I like the denseness of the stitBirch_3ches, but I would like the end result a little larger. Next time, I would cast on more stitches.

More lace for me? I dunno. Maybe. I wasn't totally won over by the process but I do like the result.
