I'm baking...a lot

Gingersnaps last night, pumpkin muffins this morning and plans to make an apple coffee cake.

Oddly, this behavior means that I feel like I'm not getting enough done. The stomach flu hit the bestitched household hard.  I am behind on three (argh!) writing deadlines, class starts tomorrow night and I have done nothing to prepare, the quilt is suddenly in limbo, and these damn knee socks just need to knit themselves.

Kneehi

Where are a group of industrious elves when I need them? Hiding in that frickin keebler tree again?

And LL is suddenly obsessed with my old Nancy Drew books. She's been carrying them everywhere. Cute but a little odd.

There's nothing sexier than a dental dam

I spent two hours in a dental chair this morning. Drooling and in moderate pain.

Then I went to Starbucks for my oh-so-soothing chai and saw a homeless guy eating beans out of a pringles can. Sigh.

So, in an attempt to erase those images and memories, here's a picture of LL wearing my grandmother's apron.

crabby pants

Friday morning started off with a root canal. Ooof. My tooth still hurts. It makes me crabby. So very crabby.

Spiral

I started the Spiral Boot Socks from the Summer Interweave. I'm using Cascade Fixation, which is fine but I'd love a little more stitch definition. I'm going to have to renew my search for a non-wool sock yarn. I hear Berroco is coming out with one this spring. And speaking of Berroco, have you seen the new Norah Gaughan booklet? I'm in love with this pattern.

Plan1

Another thing I'm crabby about is my ugly bedspread. It's time for something new.

Plan2

I'm just winging it. Wish me luck.

roam

Thanks for the get well wishes. I'm definitely all better. Stoopid stomach flu.

I sewed the zipper into Roam the other day and wore it to work today. Roam1

It's a nice, comfy sweater.

Roma2

The arms are a bit tight because I chose a smaller size, but it's a small price to pay for the beauty of negative ease.

Pattern: Roam from Knitty

Yarn: Kraemer Yarns Tatamy Tweed in Pumpkin

Mods: I added about two inches in length to account for my bust size. No hood because I just couldn't take the seed stitch any longer.

fair warning

This bug hit me so hard that BL canceled his trip to Germany.

Warning

After a day or so, I could sit up and knit. Thank god there was a Rock of Love marathon on (and the new season starts Sunday!).

In between sips of Pedilyte,  finished my Bainbridge Scarf just in time for a blast of some wintry weather we'll be getting soon.

Yarn: Manos Cotton Stria in 226

Needle: US 5

Back to go rest and drink some fluids.

unexpected vacation

We were 45 minutes from the house when I turned to the husband and shrieked, "I forgot the computer and the camera!"

There was no going back. It was like Platoon. I think I cried a little.

In the past two weeks, we visited family and friends. No pics.

Then I came home and visited with more lovely people, ate far too much, shopped, went to a fan-freakin-tastic wedding, and finished Roam. Correction on the last. I turned to DC while we were enjoying a lovely breakfast at Hi-Rise and said, "No more seed stitch. I can't take it anymore" and bound off in i-cord (with her help). So no hood, but here a few pictures.

Fabric

fabric + buttons from Marimekko and Brooklyn General Store.

Wedding

A wedding complete with pyrotechnics.

Roam

And a finished roam. The i-cord is a bit wonky in front, the sleeves are a little too tight and I perhaps  added an inch too much in length. I'm going to give this one a few runs in the wash and a good blocking before adding the zipper. We'll see about the final result.

Oh, and Happy New Year everyone!
